Forecasters are warning of intense showers continuing through this weekend in several parts of southern and southwestern China.

A 'blue' alert, the lowest of the 4-tier alert levels, remains in-effect for heavy showers and thundershowers in parts of Sichuan, Guizhou and Jiangxi.

Heavy rains, which began Friday evening, has left airport officials in Chengdu scrambling this Saturday, after some 9-thousand people were forced to miss flights because of the heavy rains.

A landslide has also impacted train services out of the city of Zunyi in Guizhou.

Around 50-tourists are being forced to wait at a mountain retreat outside the city of Yichun in Jiangxi after heavy rains cut off the only road in and out of the area. Luo Fang is with the local road bureau.

"The road is in a serious condition. It will collapse at any time. We need to fix it as soon as we can."

The annual rainy season in southern China, which runs through the spring and summer, is expected to be worse this year due to the El Nino effect.
