Two China-built Structures Stand Firm after Strong Quake in Ecuador
   2016-04-25 06:44:41    CRIENGLISH.com      Web Editor: Li Bin
Two buildings are standing firm in Portoviejo, Ecuador, after the devastating earthquake on April 17.

They are the Ecuador 911 Safety Emergency Response Command Center and a 508-bed hospital, both built by the China CAMC Engineering company.

The 911 center is Ecuador's public safety platform, which has been playing a vital role in emergency response and relief resource allocation.

Although the outer walls partially cracked and some parts of the building were damaged, its main structure remains intact.

Xiao Tiekui is the project manager of China CAMC Engineering.

"From the very beginning of our project, we have taken into account in our design the need for earthquake resistance. We designed the project in accordance with Ecuador's highest standards against possible earthquakes. The building is of steel and reinforced concrete structure, which ensures high shock resistance. The current condition shows that the whole center is operating normally."

Not far from the 911 center is the 508-bed hospital, another major project undertaken by CAMC Engineering. The building, which is still under construction, is standing firm after the strong quake and aftershocks.

The Chinese engineering company has also organized a rescue team armed with 17 vehicles for excavation to the affected areas in the immediate aftermath of the earthquake.

The team has pulled at least two people alive from under the rubble. Both are now out of danger after medical treatment.
