A 7.1-magnitude earthquake has hit parts of Pakistan, killing at least two people and injuring 30 others.

Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province was the worst hit area, reporting the greatest number of casualties.

Strong tremors were also felt in southern Xinjiang in northwest China, several provinces in Afghanistan and some prefectures in India.

"Actually we were playing cricket and all of a sudden everything was feeling shaky, so we got afraid, it was too scary for us, so we ran into the ground and we just sat down here and we were waiting for when it will stop so we can breathe properly, you know it was very dangerous."

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed all the civil and military departments of the federal government as well as the local governments of all the affected areas to be on high alert and quick in response to rescue and relief work.

Meanwhile, in Afghanistan, the National Disaster Management Authority said they are collecting information about possible loss of life and property damage.

In India, police officials said there were so far no reports of any damage but the Metro services in Delhi were temporarily suspended.
