A funeral Home in Shanghai has started using groundbreaking 3D printing technology to help improve the look of the bodies brought into their care.

The facility at the Longhua home is thought to be the first of its kind in China.

Sometimes bodies are brought to the funeral home that have been damaged or are incomplete in some way.

The 3D printing technique enables a more accurate and easier repair process.

3D printers lay down successive layers of material to create an object which can be almost any shape or size.

They can be produced from a 3D model or an electronic data source, and can even be created based on a two dimensional picture. The similarity can be as high as 95%.

What's more, by using a variety of new materials, the models can be made to feel more natural.

A face recreation would apparently cost around 4000-5000 yuan (around 618-773 US dollars).
