Taiwan-based electronic product manufacturer HTC is working on developing smartphone-based virtual reality goggles.

The move comes after HTC opened pre-orders for its new Vive VR headsets which cost 800 US dollars.

A VR product specialist in HTC says they sold 15-thousand headsets in the first 10 minutes, when orders started being taken on Feb 29th.

Virtual reality equipment allows people to experience a 360-degree digital world and it's very popular all over the world.

HTC is competing with Facebook's Oculus Rift and Google-backed Magic Leap in the race for the control of the VR market.

In addition, the company is set to open 100 VR experience stores this year.
