Two Chinese photographers have won awards at the World Press Photo 2016 competition - the world's largest and most prestigious annual press photography contest, held in Amsterdam in The Netherlands.

Chen Jie won third in the category General News, Singles with his picture, an aerial view of the destruction caused by the explosion last August in Tianjin, China.

And Zhang Lei from China's Tianjin Daily won in the category Contemporary Issues, Singles, with his photo, 'Haze in China'.

Chen Jie was interviewed by The Beijing News after his win. He told them how he liked to embrace new techniques to help him take better photos, which is why he used unmanned aerial devices, or drones, in his work.

Australian photographer Warren Richardson's 'Hope for a New Life' was the overall winner of the World Press Photo 2016 contest. The picture showed the desperate plight faced by refugees fleeing conflict in Syria seeking a new life in Europe.

A total of 82,951 photos were submitted by 5,775 photographers from 128 countries and regions in this year's competition.
