Syria's main opposition group said on Friday it will send a delegation to talk to UN officials at the Syrian peace talks in Geneva.

The group, named the High Negotiations Committee, says the delegation is not making any political negotiations, but only plans to talk to the UN after receiving reassurances about their demands.

A member of the group Hind Kanabat says the delegation's top priority is humanitarian.

"Our top agenda is the humanitarian, lifting the sieges. We have 18 places in Syria they are starving and to have this in the 21st century, it is a disaster. This is the 21st century and we have children dying from hunger and the world are watching so this is our first priority. The second priority is the detainees, specially the women and children, who are being tortured and raped in the Syrian regime's prisons."

The delegation is scheduled to arrive in Geneva on Saturday. It said earlier it will not participate in the peace talks unless the Syrian government and Russia stop bombing civilians and lift sieges in rebel-held areas.

Also on Friday, a former Syrian minister said Syria's Kurdish Democratic Union Party will attend the Geneva talks.

The UN opened the talks on Friday in an attempt to end the five-year-old Syrian conflict.
