The 2016 North America International Auto Show kicked off in Detroit, Michigan.

While more and more smart driving features have been added to modern automobiles, industry experts say it's still a long way to go before autonomous driving hits the market.

Music, lights, cameras and flashes, the 2016 North America International Auto Show has kicked off in stylish fashion.

Honda Civic and Volvo XC 90 won the awards for the year's top car and truck respectively.

Tony Swan, a renowned auto reporter and expert, said it was very hard to make the choice.

"There aren't any bad cars anymore. We found ourselves assessing elements that have nothing to do with driving."

As the first major auto show of the year, Detroit Auto Show has always served as a springboard for leading auto manufacturers. And the cars unveiled this year are all equipped with smart features.

Dieter Zetsche, head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, unveiled the latest generation of the E-Class, calling it the world's most intelligent business sedan.

"The E-Class doesn't just have your favorite music and contacts ready as ou enter, and it's not just that you can choose from 64 different colors to illuminate the inside of the car......And the key to this new world is your smartphone."

John Mendel, Executive Vice-President of Honda America, noticed that traditional auto makers have joined tech giants in developing autonomous driving cars.

"Well everybody is pushing toward autonomous driving.Everybody is seeking that kind of experience and investing a lot in terms of autonomous driving, particularly as it regards customer safety."

Despite the enthusiasm, many argued that there is still a long way to go before the autonomous driving car can finally hit the market. They warned that, in addition to technical issues, there are legal issues to be dealt with.
