Just hours before U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to meet with Attorney General Loretta Lynch to discuss ways of reducing gun violence, hundreds of people have been flocking to "The Nation's Gun Show" being held in Chantilly, Virginia.

The organizers say scores of people have been lining up to buy weapons and ammunition at the annual exhibition, and over 350 people have signed up for shooting classes.

The Washington Post, quoting several individuals briefed on the matter, says Obama and Lynch will finalize executive actions to be unveiled next week, which do not require congressional approval.

The paper also said President Obama would use his executive authority in several areas, including expanding background-check requirements for buyers who purchase weapons from high-volume dealers.

However, Doug Stockman, a licensed firearms dealer from SSG Tactical, believes that the expected new measures will not be effective in restricting gun crimes but instead limit citizens' self-defense rights.

"Our fear is they are just going to make regulations that make it more and more difficult for people to own a gun and be able to protect themselves which not only hurts us from the business standpoint but is an infringement on our constitutional rights and it's a reduction on people's ability to be able to protect themselves."

In a related development, a new law went into effect on Friday in the US state of Texas, allowing licensed handguns to be carried openly.

Around 1 million people in the State will now be able to carry holstered handguns in public.
