Russian military sources say a total of nearly 2000 oil tankers owned by extremists have been destroyed by Russian airstrikes within the borders of Syria.

The Russian air force has been focussing its efforts on cutting off illegal oil trade routes in Syria, a key source of funding for the terrorists in the country.

Last week, 37 oil mining and refinery structures owned by terrorists were destroyed, alongside 17 fleets of tankers.

Chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff, Lieutenant-General Sergey Rudskoi, said that Russia will continue to fight against any moves involved in illegal trade with extremist groups, and will co-operate with other countries by sharing intelligence.

"We hope representatives from the coalition will consider information provided by Russia's defense ministry, and take measures to destroy terrorist facilities. We are prepared to offer coordinates of extremists to our allies, and look forward to receiving information about terrorist infrastructure as well. We also promise the Russian air force will continue to conduct strikes on terrorists."

He added that the Russian Defense Ministry had set up multiple levels of surveillance to ensure the airstrikes' accuracy.

"Russia's Ministry of Defense maintains close contact with the headquarters of the Syrian government's army and armed patriotic opposition. They regularly provide additional intelligence about newly discovered terrorist targets. Once the information checks out, strikes will be carried out. This greatly increases the mobility and efficiency of neutralizing targets."

Since the end of September, Russian jets have conducted over 5200 sorties, destroying terrorist-occupied infrastructure, training bases and military equipment.
