At a debate in New Hampshire on Saturday, Democratic Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders apologized to frontrunner Hillary Clinton and his own supporters for a breach of her campaign's valuable voter data.

"Not only do I apologize to Secretary Clinton, and I hope we can work together on an independent investigation from Day 1, I want to apologize to my supporters. This is not the type of campaign that we run. And if I find anybody else involved in this, they will also be fired."

Sander' apology aimed to put the controversy to rest in that soon turned to national security concerns.

Clinton's campaign accused Sanders' team of stealing information used to target voters and anticipate what issues might motivate them.

In response to the breach, the Democratic National Committee temporarily cut off Sanders' team's access to its own data.

Clinton also criticized Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump's plan to ban Muslims from entering the United States.

"I worry greatly that the rhetoric coming from the republicans, particularly Donald Trump, is sending a message to Muslims here in the United States and literally around the world that there is a 'clash of civilizations', that there is some kind of Western plot or even 'war against Islam', which then I believe fans the flames of radicalization."

Former Maryland governor Martin 'O Malley also took part in the debate.
