Zhu Dingwei, a section chief of the Jingzhou Administration of Quality and Technology Supervision, has been detained, according to the Beijing Youth. A staff at the organization is on bail.

Both were charged in the mall escalator accident happened in Jingzhou, central China's Hubei Province in July this year, which caused one death.

On July 26th, an escalator malfunctioned in a mall in Jingzhou city. A woman named Xiang Liujuan was killed in the incident. A man surnamed Ke, a relative of the victim, said a compensation agreement had been reached between Anliang Group and the family but that Xiang's husband has fallen into deep grief over her death.

A preliminary investigation found that Suzhou Shenlong Escalator Co., Ltd, Hubei Anliang Group and Hubei Defu Mechanical & Electronic Equipment company are among the responsible parties for the incident.

The investigation revealed that factors such as faulty designs, a lack of safety precautions and an absence of inspections and emergency training all contributed to the accident.

Additionally, a lack of standardization in quality operations, incomplete fillings of maintenance records, and the absence of basic and technical information of the escalator were all blamed for the tragedy.
