USA-China: Big and Bigger
   2015-09-02 13:13:25    CRIENGLISH.com      Web Editor: Liu Ranran

Which is bigger, the US or China?

Believe it or not, the geographical areas of the US and China are so similar at about 3.7 million square miles that it¡¯s hard to say for sure which is bigger.

Both countries are home to hundreds of millions of people, most live in the east, which is also where you¡¯ll find both capitals and financial centers. Both have large tropical islands - Hawaii and Hainan - as well as scorching deserts - Death Valley in the US and the Turpan Depression in China.

In 2013 even China¡¯s eastern city of Shanghai hit 105.4 degrees Fahrenheit, breaking a 140 year record. And when Alaska freezes in winter, so does China¡¯s Xinjiang region, recording a record low of minus 40 Fahrenheit in January 2003. So, if you go to China, pack your winter woollies and sunscreen, because while it¡¯s true to say that there are differences between the US and China, you might find it¡¯s a lot more like home than you think.
