In a landmark ruling, a court in Beijing has ordered four companies to stop distributing and broadcasting the popular TV series "The Palace: The Lost Daughter."
The order is the result of a plagiarism lawsuit filed by a Taiwan novelist against a mainland screenwriter.
A court in Beijing has ruled mainland screenwriter Yu Zheng copied the plot of Taiwan author Chiung Yao's novel "Plum Blossom Scar" for the TV series.
The court has also ordered Yu Zheng to apologize, and pay Chiung Yao 5-million yuan in compensation together with the four companies.
That's around 800-thousand US dollars.
The studio supporting Yu Zheng and "The Palace: The Lost Daughter" says it plans to appeal.
The case itself has gained national attention in China, with 109 screenwriters publically standing behind the Taiwan novelist in her fight. |
