A Beijing-bound passenger plane had to make an emergency landing at an airport in Guangzhou on Monday night.

The forced landing is due to a suspected technical failure in its left wing.

Passengers on the flight say the plane began to shake violently and smell of burning after a loud bang.

There were no injuries.

A new report by a research center from China's Education Department indicates that Shanghai ranks the second in the world when it comes to the number of bookstores.

However, Shanghai ranks last in the same survey when it comes to the number of public libraries.

Subsidies For the Disabled

The Shanghai Disabled People's Federation has announced that disabled people will be granted subsidies to use Shanghai's new "London taxis".

A fleet of 50 China-made Geely TX4 cabs, which are the same models used in London, hit Shanghai's streets last month. Priority is being given to people in wheelchairs as the vehicles are more spacious than standard cabs.
