"When we are talking about new paradigms of media, we have to talk about the social media. The social media (mainly Weibo and Wechat) in China have four characteristics. Number one, both Weibo and Wechat constitute a platform for public opinions. Many netizens don't have opportunities to express their opinions on the newspaper, TV or radio, but they do on the internet. Number two, as Weibo and Wechat are getting popular day by day, we see emergence of the opinion leaders in China, and their opinions can be very influential in forming the public opinions. Number three, traditional media is closely involved in the social media. Number four, government agencies play a passive role in the domain of both Weibo and Wechat."
