The international board of the Shanghai Gold Exchange will start trading as early as September.

Inside sources say the board, which is located within the Shanghai Free Trade Zone is now going through some final preparations for the official opening.

The Exchange is expected to help China's gold importers gain more pricing power in the global market.

Statistics from the World Gold Council show that China became the world's largest gold buyer last year.

The country is also the world's biggest gold producer.

Analysts say such buying and producing activity afford China to have its own pricing benchmark.

At present, global gold pricing power lies largely with the London Bullion Market Association.
