Police Kill 13 Assailants after Xinjiang PSB Attack
   2014-06-21 10:54:14    CRIENGLISH.com      Web Editor: Zhangpeng

A group of assailants drove a truck to ram an office building of the Public Security Bureau of Yecheng County in Kashgar, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and set off explosive devices during the early morning of Saturday June 21, 2014, according to regional web portal ts.cn.

Police shot dead 13 of the assailants, though the confrontation left 3 police officers with minor injuries. No civilian casualties were reported.

The incident is currently being investigated.

China launched a campaign on Friday to rid the Internet of audio and video materials that promote terrorism and violence.

The move is aimed at safeguarding social stability in Xinjiang and maintaining long-term peace, according to a statement from the State Internet Information Office (SIIO).

The authorities will prevent terrorist materials produced overseas from being disseminated in China, clear such information online, punish website servers violating the rules and urge Internet companies to uphold their responsibilities.

In waging a people's war against terrorism, the SIIO has encouraged the public to provide it with tip-offs regarding online terror information and has promised rewards of up to 100,000 yuan (16,260 U.S. dollars) for those who offer important clues.
