Great Race, Ferrari 1-2

Monza gave us a great race. It rained for a lot of the morning before the race, and the track was drying¡
Well, Rubens (with intermediate wet tyres and a light fuel load) tore out a lead over Alonso, and Michael spun at turn 5. Did he do it on purpose? Am I what they call paranoid? Well, whatever about the latter, I do believe is that Michael Schumacher went out to have as much fun as possible, while being sure his team-mate would loose. He picked a tremendously invisible spot to spin at. He got in his pass over Rubens. And he showed everyone he was fastest at the end, and the bigger man for it. Does he know how much people expect he won't be able to control himself? How false he looks?

Well, either way, the pleasure of the race was reduced by the CCTV 5 commentary here in China. It really stood out as one of the worst yet, not because of fluffs or fumbles, but because the three commentators really didn't seem to be watching the same race as us, or if they were, they were doing something else at the same time. The trio provided us with an insight so shallow it was imprinted on the back of their own retinas.

This doesn't inspire confidence as we prepare for the first Chinese Grand Prix, with the TV coverage directed, at least in part, by CCTV. They better get their act in order!

There should be some cause for media excitement ¨C not that most Chinese journos won't be jumping out of their skins ¨C because Grand Prix is reporting that Jarno Trulli will be replaced in the Renault by none other than Jacques Villeneuve. Poor old Jarno has been treated, we're told, like dirt by the bosses at Renault, and will be able to leave properly, rather than half-in half-out as he was currently. Jacques was always notoriously impatient with the media. If he does show up this time, there will be lots lenses pointed at him. Add to this the adolescent outlook of many journalists, the TV footage and photos of Jacques interacting with partly-bilingual journalists should be a great laugh!

So after a largely nonexistent silly season (aggression between BAR and Williams not counting as "silly"), here I am hoping a rumour, bringing JV back into the sport, is true! Schumacher throwing the race is believable too¡

A young Irishman feeling the need to go abroad is nothing new: Connor put a new twist on this old tune by first doing a degree in Chinese, then going to China, and finally deciding to have opinions. An F1 fan for fifteen years, he says he wouldn't have the dedication to work in the sport, but if so he does a pretty good job of hiding it. Maybe Eddie Jordan has set the emotional-display bar too high, I mean look at Kimi¡
