The Health Ministry says that China will provide free condoms to AIDS and HIV-infected patients.

Currently, China is facing a serious situation as AIDS continues to spread throughout the country. As the main method of infection has been through sexual intercourse, the use of condoms is seen as an effective but cheap way to curb the spread of the disease.

Authorities have instigated a policy encouraging the use of condoms and requesting local governments to enhance health and sex education.

China has set a goal of ensuring that at least 50% of those at high risk of contracting HIV/AIDS will use condoms by the end of 2005.
