Heavy rainfall has flooded some 100,000 hectares of farmland in North Korea.

Most of the crops have been destroyed and more than a thousand families made homeless. There is also extensive damage to infrastructure, including power lines and communication facilities.

North Korea is hit by floods every year, but this year's exceptionally heavy flooding is threatening the country with a new famine.

Some one million people died from hunger after large-scale flooding nine years ago.
