China will build its first HIV/AIDS treatment center in southwest China's Yunnan Province within the year.

The center will house 200 patients, engage in developing medicine to treat the disease and offer consultation services and training programs for medical staff.

By the end of June, Yunnan had reported a total of 16 thousand HIV carriers and one thousand AIDS patients, both the largest numbers in the country.

The center will cost 160 million yuan or 19 million US dollars.
