African Nations Double Spending against AIDS
2004-6-12 21:49:29
CRIENGLISH.com
African countries have doubled spending against HIV/AIDS over the past decade, but far greater funding and a better distribution of treatment are needed to curb the pandemic.
That is the message from a gathering of delegates from about 43 African ministers responsible for population and development issues in Senegal's capital city of Dakar.
They have reviewed progress made in line with the commitments made at a 1994 international population conference in Cairo.
That conference also outlined a program of action for the next 20 years, with specific goals in areas of infant and maternal mortality, education and health.
Experts have reviewed from Tuesday to Friday the problems and constraints inhibiting the implementation of the Cairo plan.
