Jean Ping, minister of the Gabonese Republic has been elected as the President of the 59th UN General Assembly.

Jean Ping, minister of state and foreign minister of the Gabonese Republic has been elected as the President of the 59th UN General Assembly.

Jean Ping says he hopes the United Nations can continue playing a role in alleviating poverty, avoiding wars and creating a better society for all human beings.

The 59th UN General Assembly will meet in September.
