Sony Pictures Classics has speared a deal to acquire North American copyrights to Chinese director Zhang Yimou's masterpiece "House of Flying Draggers," which is being shown at the Cannes Film Festival.

This is the sixth film by China's best known director to be distributed by Sony. The copyright price has not been announced.

American media sing high praises of Zhang Yimou and the three leading actors - Zhang Ziyi, Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro - in this action film.

Set in 859 AD, 'House of Flying Daggers' is a story of love and betrayal in which secret societies vie for the loyalty of the emperor.
