A Russian rocket has blasted into space with three astronauts onboard, bound for the international space station.

The three astronauts are from Russia, the United States and the Netherlands, and it will take two days travelling in space before they reach their destination.

The Russian spacecraft has been the only means to get to the orbital outpost since the suspension of U.S. space shuttle flights following the February 2003 Columbia disaster.
