The first day session of the six-party talks in Beijing has concluded and bilateral consultations are expected to begin later Wednesday.
The South Korean delegation reveals that North Korea and the United States, the protagonists of the unfolding drama, will begin direct talks soon.

The negotiation started Wednesday morning in Beijing's Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, where the first round of talks was held last August.

Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Wang Yi says the importance of this round of talks lies in the disucssion of substantial issues, which marks a step forward in the negotiation process.

North Korean delegation head, Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Kye-gwan hopes sincere efforts made by all sides can produce a positive result in the second round of talks.

US chief negotiator, James Kelly, says the multilateral form provides a reliable diplomatic means of ensuring peace and stability and denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula.

Delegates from South Korea, Russia and Japan also agree to solve the issue peacefully through dialogue in hopes of continuing the talks, noting this round of talks could kick off discussion of substantive issues.

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing will hold a reception Wednesday evening for all delegations to the second round of six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue. (Xu Qinduo)
