China and Russia have urged all sides of the six-party talks on the Korean nuclear issue to show flexibility and sincerity and avoid confrontations when discussing concrete problems.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Russian counterpart Alexander Losiukov made this call in Beijing during their consultation for the upcoming six-party talks, due to open on Wednesday.

A press release from the Chinese Foreign Ministry says the two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on the positive progress of the six-party talks, and reached wide consensus. It says efforts should be concentrated on the setup of objectives and a framework for resolving the issue. Such efforts are important for pushing the talks forward in a smooth way.

It is reported that Wang Yi will also hold consultations with officials of the United States, North Korea, South Korea and Japan before the talks.

The Russian delegation was the first to arrive in Beijing.
