Heavy smog shrouds the city of Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu province on December 4, 2013. The city's Air Pollution Warning and Emergency Center issued a red alert for smog on Wednesday night, which is the most serious among the country's four-tier warning system. Kindergartens and schools in Nanjing have been closed since the red alert was issued. [Photo: CFP]
