China Works on Anti-Money Laundering Laws

China is spreading the anti-money laundering net wider by speeding up work on legislation, which experts say is vital as the finance industry opens up further.

The United States has blocked a U.N. Security Council statement drafted by Arab nations and aimed at putting pressure on Israel to stop military strikes on Palestinian targets.

Washington does not have formal veto power when it comes to council statements. But it is able to block the draft single-handedly because council rules require that statements be unanimous and supported by all 15 of its members.

During a three-month trial period, from this month to the end of June, 200 test readers of Flemish financial daily De Tijd will receive a prototype developed by Phillips.
